Problem & Purpose Statements

Original Problem:

First time home buyers looking to buy a home have trouble finding modern, affordable and sustainable custom built property.

Original Purpose:

The purpose of this research was to raise awareness amongst first time home buyers about the benefits of investing in modern prefabricated homes.

Refined Problem:

People in the Bay Area who are looking into buying a home are unaware of the existence and benefits of modern prefabricated homes.

Refined Purpose:

The purpose of this research was to inform and raise awareness amongst potential Bay Area homeowners about the benefits of modern prefabricated homes.

Although I feel a lot better about the refined statements, they may need to be reworked yet again to narrow the focus. argh.

a little about me...

WHO ARE YOU?

My name is Jeff and I am a Visual Communications major of the Design and Industry Department at San Francisco State University. I guess my concentration would be towards graphic design but definitely not limited to that. I started off as a Physical Therapy major at Cal State Long Beach many moons ago, but after sleeping through a couple semesters I realized it just was not for me. I've always been interested in art & design growing up so I went for it and here I am.

WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS?

Motion graphics, identity, branding, advertising, graffiti, art, architecture, sustainability, vinyl toys, environmental graphics, signs, hip-hop, logos, modern interior/exterior design, color theory, user interfaces, mobile, package design, graphic novels, typography, sneakers... to name a few.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I get inspired by observing the world around me. From the cracks in the concrete to the billboards in Times Square. I am constantly amazed at the creative minds behind all that we see.

WHO/WHAT ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?

This list can be very long too but I think most of my influence comes from graffiti and urban artists.

WHAT IS YOUR VISION OR HOPE IN YOUR LIFETIME?

Wow, this going kinda deep don't you think? Hmm... well I just hope to live a long and experienced filled life. And while doing so I hope to have made some contributions that will have lasting positive effects in the world. Academically, I hope to ahem...pass this class and get my BA, then maybe continue on for that other piece of paper that says I deserve more dinero.

Professionally I want to ramp up my freelance work, maybe hire some minions and sit in my office playing Scrabble on my phone all day.

Five Oh Five

I've always told myself that I would jump on the blog train one day, but I never thought it would take a DAI class to do it. So after a very very long college career I have arrived at the 'capstone' course where if all goes well, I can rock that gold SFSU Alumni license --> plate with pride. Yup, gold.

Having the chance to do some real world research on a topic that I have a passion for sounds like fun, but it also sounds like a lot of work. This should be interesting...
